    Question Backpacking with Instruments???

    hi all....!

next year im planning on going away to teach english in some random foreign country and while im in europe im going to travel around backpacking as so many australians do!

BUT what about my violin???? i want to take it, but it requires carrying...and what if i lose it...what if i drop it (this has happened before!!) or what if it gets stolen...what if... what if..... what if....what if.....

i really want to take it, but i dont know if i can.....but i will still want my violin! ive never been not able to play it..yeah i havnt played it when im feeling slack...but ive never not been able to play it because i dont have it....... and i know that if i take it i will beable to learn so much, so many different techniques and whatever.....but i just dont know

if anyone has travelled with their instrument can they plz help me?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I've travelled with one of my guitars before. I went out and bought the smallest, cheapest one I could find before the trip and it worked great. It doesn't have to be fancy, just something to keep up your chops with.

I know it's a year away, but good luck and have fun on the trip! We'll miss you here at IBM.

Cool. We gotta' have our top violinist here for support!

I just thought of something. While it may be hard to find a cheapo violin to practice with, you might be able to get a cheap ukulele or a mandolin to keep your finger strength up to par. I should do that, too.

unsure about the 'top violinist' claim thats just flattery (blush blush!)
a ukulele could be very fun though!!

I saw a video of a guy blasting out some intricate classical piece on a ukulele. Maybe you could be our top ukuleleist(?) player, too.

Edit: Okay, maybe it wasn't a classic piece. It was "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" -- close enough perhaps:

Sorry about the ads on the site... almost pr0n.

Not really. Not if you've played strings before. For you it'll seem a little big perhaps.

The guy in the video I linked above seems to play it rather easily.

Quite possibly. Knowing me I'd try to hook up an acoustic pickup to it and play it through a Marshall stack with distortion and wah effects. Might not be so fun that way.

Yeah. Maybe people in Australia don't actually catch a kangaroo and ride it to work every day. But the women in the united states are always posing nude for the camera.

I'm seriously going to try the ukulele through an amp though. I'll make it happen w/ pics.

Oh. I just realized that site tailors those ads based on your location. So if you lived in madagascar it would say "18/F East Madagascar"

Okay. It might be a while before I get myself a Ukulele but I promise I'll post the pics. lol - I gotta' see that too.
