College music courses in the UK

I tried to get into college to do a diploma course this year, and I was unsuccessful, because I have no GCSE's. I thought maybe I should try a music course, surely no school qualifications would be required I thought, but no, wrong, need GCSE's. Can anyone tell me why on earth GCSE's are necessary to study music?

It's not the different subjects that matter as such, the point is that if you passed the exams they show you have the ability to learn!

I think it's just because they want to force you to learn

why didnt you sit your GCSE's , just wondering.

Mybe a music school will let you in without GCSE's if you explain to them why you didnt do them , and if you are good enough to get in it might work.

Exactly, it's basically the same as a High School Diploma from certain schools, except for the fact that here in the UK it's done in separate exams, rather than one overall mark as to whether you pass or fail. In other words, you take separate exams for each subject and you either pass or fail at that particular subject, it's not like the whole lot is linked together.
