    Man, I have really big hands - But I don't think they're quite as long as Vai's...

    A= 11.5 cm
    B= 9.2 cm
    C= 10 cm

    Maybe if this thread is still going by this weekend, I'll get my dad's digital camera and snap a few shots; later (yeah, cool thread too).

    Like I said, I am pleasantly suprised that this thread got so much attention(and happy, too!). Thanks again to everyone who responded. This is the first thread that I've started to make 3 pages!!! I did it mainly to prove to myself that my hands are on the smaller side, but that there are others out there who can still play with the same size hands. I play a 7-string, so I have a wider neck do deal with than the average 6-string neck. Thanks for the encouragement, ya'll.

    I didn't feel that the full potential of this thread had yet been realized, so I put all the data into the number cruncher and produced the following table. This not only makes the data more fun, but automatically enhanced its perceived validity due to the use of important-sounding words such as 'deviation' and 'median'.

    Key:

    'Average' is the regular old arithmentic mean.

    'Avg Dev' is the average of the absolute values of the deviations of each data point from the mean.

    'Std Dev' is the standard deviation value. Nearly 70% of the data values will likely be within one standard deviation of the mean.

    'Median' is the value where half of the data points are larger, half are smaller.

    What does it mean? The data basically says that about 70% of us are within 3/4 cm of the average for dimensions A and C (less than 1/3 of an inch), and that about 70% of us are within 1/2 cm of the average for dimension B (less than 3/16 of an inch).

    BB, you have no idea how I was struggling against the urge to post something almost exactly like:

    "Gosh, it sure is a SHAME that there are no vets here (like
    Bongo Boy), who are good with Micro$oft Excel, (like
    Bongo Boy), who have lots of time on their hands, (like
    Bongo Boy)..." et cetera.

    Thank you for giving in to your primal spreadsheet instincts. Unfortunately they reveal that I'm average-challenged. You also forgot to compute the cell which tells us how long until we don't suck...

    ...and a good thing, too, since that value increases with ever minute spent screwing around (for no apparent reason) with senseless spreadsheets.

    I got:

    A: 12cm
    B: 11cm
    C: 10cm

    I can fairly easily do a 7 fret stretch from the first fret to the 7th on my strat.

    1 to 5 and 1 to 6 are quite comfortable, with only a slight bit of stretch on the 6th.
    Hard luck and trouble...

    those are some bloody long fingers dommy! I can do 1 to 6 fairly easily and one to seven at a real pinch, but my fingers are 2cm shorter than yours. Guess hand size really isn't that much of an issue, (not that I ever thought it was)

    Yes. In fact you're totally out of spec, and will have to be returned to the factory for corrective modifications.
