ho ho ho.. guys this thread is getting better everyday!
koala, nice riff, it really is a bit rush-a-like. thought you were a bluesman!
hey russ, nice having you posting here! keep those wierdo licks comin', i'm sure having a use for it ! at least i'm trying to.
a explanation to those is very helpful always, since they are not so obviously understandable and can be put more in daily playing stuff when understood.
alright.. here is a something i am trying to incorporate in a song.
i've was trying to put superlocrian more into a rock/pop context rather than jazz around with. we haven't had odd time signitures either.. so check this one out.![]()
Hahaaa!!
Cool Phantom!
I love to see superlocrian get used in all sorts of contexts! As I'm pressed for time right now, (just taking a break while *still* fixing my van), I'm assuming that that was superlocrian you were using over the G7b13....a real cool sounding and easy way to get most of the same altered tones is to, for example, start 1 whole step below your G7b13 chord and play a m7b5 arppegio, i.e. Fm7b5 arp. Check that out. It's easy for me for some reason - it has always fallen under my fingers easilty.
Well - gotta run! I'll be baaaack!

hey russ.. watch your hands!!
it was actually my beloved wholetone scale but left out the C# 'cause i wanted it to be strictly notes out of Cmelodic minor. just love that outerspace sound. but i'll try he Fm7b5 you metioned.![]()
Uh...wait a sec....
I'm getting confused....lol
Are you playing C melodic minor over a G7 alt?
That wouldn't give you G superlocrian would it?
I think the formula is: play the melodic minor scale up a half step from your altered chord - in this case play Ab melodic minor over a G alt. chord to get G superlocrian, also known as "G altered scale".
I could be wrong...dunno....

yep you're right .
the superlocrian part is before the flashy endlick!!
it's B superlocrian at the beginning. changes to C lick (only root/4/5) and then the endrun where i only extracted the wholetonepart of Gmixob13..... i think![]()
.
OK....I just made up a lick that would be good over an E alt. I think it lays under the fingers pretty well too, you should be able to work this up to a pretty good speed.

Phantom, i love the blues, but only play it for some clubs n stuff, the music I make is far from blues i guess....
And yeah, this thread keeps getting better n better!![]()
Alright . Some nice work with those Super Locrian , i haven't picked up that one yet , but it sure sounds nice . Kind of minor .
Here's some Jazz riffs i was working on , with major, Dorian , and Dominant , scales

Spin!
That's some trippy stuff man!
I'm interested in your approach on that first Dm7 chord.....
Was it just a sound you were going for, or is it in any way scale based? I like the sound of it!

Hi russ,
Yes, on the first ii chord it's a "Dominant Scale" and a C major scale combined together. I got the patterns from a Herb Ellis Method book .
The patterns are in two positions , the dominant scale (major scale with a b7) Starting with the Pinky finger on "C" , and a " C major Scale" starting with the Middle finger, on "C"
So it's a combination of those two simple patterns.
The Riff in the Power Tab , started on "F" of the lower pattern, and shifts to the next position on the G String , when the patterns combine , the flat 3ed associated with the "C Blues scale" falls in , nicely.
Here are the Patterns as they relate to a "C major7th" chord on the 8th fret.

That was pritty good ,88, what chords does it work over?
Play Loud
hey spin.. i'm back from a short x-mas holiday. unfortunately![]()
nice pattern you posted. does the herb ellis book say something about the theory behind these two patterns, since they are pretty mixed up in themselves and compared to each other?
are they supposed to work over all the chords of Cmajor? (you were playind them over the IIchord as you metioned)
sounds cool though![]()
