Is sheet music necessary for music play

Is sheet music necessary for music play? If so, is there any practicing software that can help me play well?

I think most guitarists use tablature, 'tabs', which is special notation for the guitar to show you which strings to play, but tell nothing about how long to play it (you have to know what the song sounds like, and play each note for the appropriate amount of time). Likewise with chord sheets, once you know your chords, you can google the song you like and put chords afterwards. If it's a popular song, somebody will have written out they lyrics and put the chords you're supposed to play above it. There's lots of tabs and chord sheets out there, the trick is to find ones where people tabbed them correctly.

Now, are you talking about using these to learn guitar or learn songs you want to play? I personally have never used any computer programs to help me, maybe backing tracks now and again.

Not if you have perfect pitch and can play by ear. Most of us do not so we rely upon some kind of sheet music to know which notes to play.

Now as to practicing software that can help you play well. The Internet is full of "how to" videos. DVD's, games, etc. that can be used as tools.

As to software packages, what do you want the software to do?

This site is not as much fun as it used to be. I'll check back in a few months.

Mod Note. You are right. Those two are now banned and their posts deleted (apart from the neutral OP above).
