    Grace Potter and The Nocturnals
    Kate Havnevik
    Ray LaMontange

    My list

    I have seen a lot of good songs posted on here so far, and quite a few of them I agree with...yet. I am 42 years old and I remember some great ones that haven't made the list so far;

    1. Janis Ian - At Seventeen
    2. Cat Stevens - Father (It's like he is pleading during his time of questioning his faith)
    3. Cat Stevens - Where do the Children Play
    4. Cat Stevens - Sad Lisa
    5. Carol King - So Far Away
    6. Janis Joplin - Get it While You Can
    7. Bread - If (heck, most anything by them)
    8. Aerosmith - You See Me Cryin
    9. Al Green - I'm So Tired of Being Alone
    10. Dolly Parton - Hard Candy Christmas
    11. 10CC - I'm Not in Love
    12. America - Right Before Your Eyes
    13. Billy Joel - And So It Goes

Ahh..the list could go on and on...

    I feel the same way.

As to the original question... I'm racking my brains trying to think of just one.
Don't know if that's good or bad.

Post I have the music for you...for sure

I have not read all of the replies, but as far as I can tell, none of the suggestions reach what I would consider depressing music. I am not a masochist or snob, but I believe I know what can be counted as depressing, the perfect storm of sorrowful lyrics and melodies. Plus, none of these artists are too large or too obscure. You can find this music at many places. Here are some suggestions:

    1. Most music by Cat Power (Chan Marshall), especially the songs "Water and Air" on What Would the Community Think, and "In this Hole" on The Covers Recod

    2. Bonnie Prince Billy's (Will Oldham) album I See a Darkness, especially the title song "I See a Darkness."

    3. Neutral Milk Hotel's (Jeff Magnum) album In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, especially the two songs put together, "Communist Daughter" and "Oh Comely."

    4. Sigur Ros's ablum (), especially the song "Untitled 8".

    5. Ray Lamontagne's ablum Till the Sun Turns Black, especially the songs "Lesson Learned" and the title song.

    6. Ryan Adams' album Heartbreaker. It lives up to its expectation, especially the song "Oh my Sweet Carolina." Also, he has an amazing version of "Wonderwall" on his album Love is Hell.

    7. I feel as though I do not even need to mention Radiohead (although I am, especially OK Computer and The Bends

I hope the author of the post or others find this helpful. I have much more...this is just a few.

    Ryan

Not only sad, but an amazingly beautiful musician.

*Name dropping alert* I used to live in the same room as Nick in my university dorms (with a 30 year gap between us of course...).
