    R.I.P Michael Brecker

This one kind of hit harder then I thought it would. I knew he was sick and all, but I didn't find out until I got to school today. Definately a major influence on everything I play and it's very sad to see him go at only 57. I've just been reading through his website and what not for the past while. I've read through it so many times in the past, but it still shocks me every time I see the list of his recordings. This guy's musical accomplishments are just stupifying. He has played and recorded with nearly every notable musician of the last 25 years. There is a file of all his sideman recordings out there on the net...713!!! Some of which include, Herbie Hancock, Chet Baker, George Benson, Dave Brubeck, Freddie Hubbard, Chick Corea, Charles Mingus, Joni Mitchell, Frank Sinatra, Elton John, James Brown, Bruce Springsteen, Quincy Jones, Frank Zappa, Aerosmith, Dave Mathews, just to name a few.

It boggles my mind just how much music he put out there.

Indeed sad news. For many years, I have always been impressed by seeing his name mentioned in the credits of so many albums I bought... and of course by the playing and arrangements, too.
    RIP, Michael

Not only did Brecker die at the weekend, Alice Coltrane did too! What a sad weekend.

I saw him in 1980 with Pat Methany. He was also on the 80 81 album. This was an incredible musician. I highly recommend the 80 81 album for anyone interested in jazz.
