    Hendrix - Style + Sound

    Hey Guys!
I have to write 8-12 pages about "Jimi Hendrix's revolutionary technique and playing style" as skilled work... (nice topic i chose right?) I thought I could post this here and some of you might post some licks or some descriptions of hendrix's sound and his gear etc.?! (the licks would be burned on a cd I'd give my teacher together with the work, your name could be on that, too, if you want!) hope you like the idea,
    cheerz

Thankee for the recommendation. I think I have enough book-material! The best book for this is "Elektrisch" by Lothar Trampert because I really want to write about the music and not about the myth of jimi hendrix... but thank you for the tip!

One thing to remember about Hedrix's Gear is that almost all of it was rewired/customised by 'Manny's Guitar Shop' in New York.
For Example, his Jim Dunlop 'Cry Baby' was fitted with a different Pot that changed the sound of it compared to a normal one. (If I remember rightly, his had a slightly different frequency range.)
All the Marshall heads that he used for recording purposes were also reconfigured to work the tubes slightly harder at lower volumes to produce the overdriven sound at lower levels.
Unfortunately a lot of the biographies don't go into the gear side in any depth, but there are texts available on the subject.
Hope this helps you a little!

Here are various licks - some "in the style of" and some actual Jimi licks:

Also note on the page Marie Rippen's high school paper, which might also help a tad, and the Hendrix experts' pages.

well, If your focusing on music alone, then I would look into the intro of little wing, I think it is one of his most comprehensive works ever, so emotional and flowing, arguably to me, his masterpiece. I'm having trouble getting an accurate tab right now, but when i get home, ill scan mine.

Thx Carvinite - I already "can" play it (probably one can never get behind this feeling and sound) and it will surely be part of the cd!

P.S. Did I put this thread in "Getting Started"? - I'm almost sure I opened it in the Technique section?!
