i got a good idea, for people (like me) that know close to zero about music thoery, would somebody be so kind as to set out sort of a check box step by step list of what to learn. [and be specific]

for example
1)-musical alphabet
2)-major pentatonic scale
3)- som other scale
4) another scale this scale that scale
5)-i dunno

thanks, i think this woul dbe helpful to lots of people .. especially me haha because its all well and good to be directed to a site but its all a bit overwhelming and this site is a bit unorganised at the moment, and i could go on! but thanks!

What are you trying to achieve? Where are you at now?

There are many different ways on how you can go about this - it's difficult to give a general set advice without knowing what you already can do or not.

In terms of music theory I would set the following order:

1) Intervals http://www.ibreathemusic.com/learn/article/31
2) Triads http://www.ibreathemusic.com/learn/article/56
3) 7th chords
4) Chord scales

For general information about music notation, staff, clef etc.. have a look at this site: http://www.dolmetsch.com/theoryintro.htm (thx Bongo Boy for this neet resource)

this site is a bit unorganised at the moment, and i could go on! but thanks! [/B] Dude, if I went into my new neighbor's house for the first time, and began telling him how cluttered the place was, he'd probably throw me out, and rightfully so.

The host of this site, Guni, was more gracious in his reply to you than many site owners would be.

....or am I overreacting? Anyhoo, this is a great place. Music theory can be overwhelming if you try to digest too much at once, so perhaps that is partially where your above quote stemmed from.

Anyhoo again, stick around awhile and you'll see what kind of effort Guni puts into making this site great. Me just thinks your "unorganized" blurb was inappropriate.

;) thanx a lot Danster for your backing. I really didn't feel offended - I kinda took it as positive criticism.

Mr Luke, you are welcome to post any suggestions in the Suggestions and Feedback forum.

"this site is a bit unorganised at the moment, and i could go on!"

That's your opinion & of course you have a right to it.
However what would probably be more constructive when saying such a comment is to be specific as to your concerns with this site, your suggestions & Solutions.

Quote from Danster "me thinks your "unorganized" blurb was inappropriate."

Danster, I & pretty much all other Members just appreciate what a quality site this is, & that the Advisors(who are experts) specifically as well as some Members put a hell of a lot of work into this site.
(ie. articles, replying to Forum Threads, Maintaining Site, etc.)

And these experts aren't asking for any money, they willingly share their expert advice, experience, etc.

I know it may sound like I'm "kissing ***" but look at the quality of this site, it's advisors & members.

IMHO this is the best FREE Educational Music Website(w/ an emphasis on Guitar Education) on the internet.
