Ok, this will be real noob:D

What is a vamp? I mean, I'm brazilian so I couldn't figure out what this term means... I've heard some brazilian guitarisits talk about it too... Is this a chord progression, a turnaround construction or what?

My understanding is that a Vamp is usually a Chord/Chord Progression made up usually to accompany a melody line.

So just say you wanted to do a little improvising, so you recorded yourself doing a quick chord progression, or even just a single chord repeatedly, what you just recorded is a "Vamp".

Hope I got that right, correct me if I'm wrong, the term is a little hard to explain.

Thanx, shred! You were really helpful, as I got lots of harmony articles in my hands that just don't stop talking about vamps...
I can see things more cleary, now! It's amzing when you just know what the hell those geeky musicians are talking about!;)

I believe that 'Vamp' Refers to any short repetitive chord change.
There could be only 1 chord or several, but the idea is a repetitve change to improvise over.
