View Full Version : using music as reference for eartraining

does anyone use known music to name notes by ear? For example i can sing a Bb cold because thats the first piano chord from queens bohemian rhapsody. I can sing an A because of "cat scratch fever" or:"whole lotta rosie". I can sing an E because of the first chord of the album version of rock you like a hurricane.....get the idea. I don't know it sounds stupid to me but thats how i reference pitches. Some people think i have perfect pitch but somehow i consider it "cheating" because I do not have any songs ingrained in my head that have a prominent Gb or C#.I cant recognize tones unless i reference them

Weird stuff, huh? but a cool shortcut nonetheless
